AFTER CARE

Human Hair Extensions Aftercare Program
DOs – Recommended Care

1. Washing & Conditioning

  • Use sulfate-free, alcohol-free shampoos and conditioners to avoid drying out the extensions.
  • Wash 2–3 times per week (or as needed) to prevent product buildup without over-drying.
  • Always use lukewarm water and apply conditioner from mid-length to ends.

2. Brushing & Detangling

  • Use a wide-tooth comb or loop brush designed for extensions.
  • Start brushing from the ends upward, holding the base of the hair to prevent pulling.
  • Gently detangle before and after washing.
  • Styling & Heat
  • Use heat protectant sprays before blow-drying, curling, or straightening.
  • Keep heat settings at a low to medium temperature (below 350°F / 180°C).
  • Allow hair to air dry when possible to extend longevity.

3. Sleeping

  • Tie hair into a loose braid or ponytail before bed to prevent tangling.
  • Use a silk or satin pillowcase to minimize friction and dryness.
  • Maintenance & Longevity
  • Schedule regular maintenance appointments with your stylist (every 6–8 weeks, depending on the method).
  • Apply lightweight, extension-safe oils (like argan or coconut oil) sparingly to mid-length and ends.

DON’Ts – What to Avoid

1. Washing Mistakes

  • Do not wash hair upside down, as this causes tangling at the roots.
  • Avoid daily washing – it shortens the lifespan of extensions.

2. Product Use

  • Avoid shampoos with sulfates, parabens, and alcohol, as they strip natural oils.
  • Do not use heavy serums, thick oils, or conditioners directly on the bonds/tapes.
  • Heat & Styling
  • Never apply heat tools directly to the bonds, keratin tips, or tapes – it may cause slipping.
  • Avoid excessive heat styling; frequent high heat shortens extension life.
  • Avoid coloring or bleaching.

3. Lifestyle & Environment

  • Do not swim in chlorinated pools or salt water without protecting hair first (braid and use a leave-in conditioner or swim cap).
  • Avoid tanning lotions, sunscreen, or oily products near the hairline—they can break down adhesive bonds.
  • Sleeping & Daily Wear
  • Never go to bed with wet hair extensions – this causes matting.
  • Avoid rough brushing or tugging; this can loosen or damage your natural hair.
  • Hard Water.
